What Skylight keeps, and what it never sees
The short version: you choose. Guest mode stores nothing on the server at all, and every level above it is described in plain language before you pick it.
Never collected
- No email address at all — you sign in with a Skylight username
- No verification email, so there is no inbox to link to you
- No advertising, analytics or third-party trackers
- No payment details — Skylight does not charge for anything
Only if you ask for it
- Your Skyward login, encrypted — only if you create an account
- Your grades, encrypted — same
- Push subscriptions, if you turn on phone notifications
- An AI overview request, if you opt in and click it
Gone when you say so
- Turning background alerts off removes the server-held copy of your key
- It also removes your push subscriptions
- Delete everything hard-deletes every row Skylight holds
- Guest mode has nothing to delete in the first place
Three levels, and what each one keeps
Set in Settings, changeable at any time. Stepping back down deletes what was stored.

Your Skyward password
It is used for one thing: signing in to Skyward on your behalf. It is not used for anything else. In guest mode it is not stored at all — you type it, Skylight uses it, and it is gone when you close the tab. With an account it is stored encrypted, under a key derived from your Skylight password, which Skylight does not keep.
What-if maths never leaves your browser
The what-if calculator and the “what do I need” solver run entirely in the page you are looking at. Nothing you try out is uploaded, logged, or visible to anyone — including the people who run Skylight.
The AI overview is opt-in and stores nothing
If you turn it on, Skylight can generate a short automatic summary of how your classes are going. It is sent only your course names and grades — not your name, not your login, not your schedule. It runs on Cloudflare Workers AI, and nothing about the request or the answer is stored. If you never turn it on, it never runs.
Notifications
Phone notifications use Web Push. Each message is encrypted to your own device before it leaves, so the push service that relays it cannot read what it says. Subscriptions are deleted when you turn notifications off, leave the background-alerts level, or delete your account.
Your account identity
Skylight does not collect an email address. You sign in with a Skylight username, which defaults to your Skyward username, and an account is proved by a working Skyward login rather than by a verification email. The account is linked to its student by a keyed one-way hash of the Skyward username — the Skyward username itself is never stored. That is also what lets you reset a forgotten password by signing in to Skyward again, and it is why there is one Skylight account per student.
Deleting everything
Settings has a Delete-everything button. It hard-deletes every row Skylight holds about you: the account, the keys, the encrypted blobs, your settings, your sessions and the audit log. There is no soft delete and no recovery.
Changes to this page
Skylight is a small independent project, not a company with a legal department. If what it stores changes, this page changes with it, and anything that would store more than before is opt-in.
